The Florida Panthers announced on Sunday that Mike Keenan has stepped down as general manager and will be replaced by head coach Jacques Martin, effective immediately.
The team said in a statement that Keenan was leaving after two years as GM “to pursue other career opportunities.”
Tthis is a curious move given a) they’re pretty close to training camp and b) Keenan’s already made the big Luongo/Bertuzzi swap (and signed Eddie Belfour to boot). Perhaps Iron Mike is headed to the Nassau Mausoleum, where they can’t possibly have too many cooks stirring the vat? Unlikely, I know, but I’m pretty sure he won’t turn up in St. Louis anytime son.
