Earlier today, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Derrick Gold reported Cards manager Tony La Russa filed suit against Twitter last month, claiming he’d suffered “suffered significant emotional distress (and) damage to reputation” due to a fake Twitter profile the service failed to remove when requested. Though La Russa is suing Twitter for trademark infringement, trademark dilution and misappropriation of name and likeness, the Riverfront Times’ Bill Streeter has read the full complaint and observes, “La Russa alleges that Twitter not only knew that his name and image were being used on their service, but that Twitter did it themselves deliberately and with malicious intent.”
Paranoia, wishful thinking or a fundamental misunderstanding of how the internet works? Either way, I can’t imagine why anyone would seek to mock a stand-up guy like Tony La Genius.
I’m as bummed not to be even considered a person-of-interest in this case as Hunter Thompson was to learn he wasn’t on the White House enemies list. I realize I haven’t been posting lately, but to not even be asked to testify …
my apologies, Ben. I promise, the very next time Tony La Russa abuses our legal justice system, it’s all yours!
