Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez jogged to first base with two out in the 9th inning of Friday’s 4-3 loss to the Mets, oblivious to the possibility of the tying run scoring from third on a poor throw. Despite this unseemly episode, Ramirez “gets a kick out of playing at Citi Field” in the words of the Palm Beach Post’s Joe Capozzi :
“They boo their own players, so we like to come here and beat the Mets,” he said.
Ramirez went into Friday’s game batting .389 (14-for-36) with two homers and seven RBI in 10 games at Citi Field.
Asked if he likes Citi Field, Ramirez replied: “Not really but as soon as I get out there and see all the fans booing and cheering, we just laugh every time they boo their own players. It’s weird.’
Ramirez was quick to point out the Marlins lack the level of fan support that the Mets enjoy.
