Despite Fran Healy assuring us that “it can’t be found on the internet”, sources far and wide are claiming that Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella has agreed to a $2million buyout, relieving him of his responsibilities for the final year of his contract.
Piniella immediately becomes the odds-on favorite for all of the jobs Jimmy Leyland thought he’d be first in line for. I can’t help but wonder how Bobby Valentine would respond to the challenge of managing the D-Rays in their nearly 80 games a year against Boston, New York, Baltimore and Toronto, knowing full well the suicide mission wouldn’t pay him enough.
