Barry Bonds, as quoted by the AP yesterday :
“I think we have other issues in this country to worry about that are a lot more serious. I think you guys should direct your efforts into taking care of that,” the San Francisco Giants slugger said yesterday before facing the Washington Nationals. “Talk about the athletes that are helping Katrina. Ask yourselves how much money y’all personally donated and have helped.”
Replies Ben,
Bonds is right, sports reporters have completely failed the people of New Orleans. Why hasn’t Jim Rome stepped forward to accept personal responsibility? As the Washington Post points out, America’s first responder sports screamers are too busy with a needless war to help people.
Damn straight, if you were sorting out what was left of your home, looking for food, water, missing relatives, etc., whose healing touch would mean more to you, the Manning Brothers’ or Pedro Gomez?
