From the AP/Palm Beach Post :
Florida Marlins manager Joe Girardi was fired today, a move that had been expected after his rift with owner Jeffrey Loria boiled over in an on-field confrontation two months ago.
Atlanta third-base coach Fredi Gonzalez is considered the front-runner to replace Girardi. Gonzalez was runner-up in the Marlins’ search a year ago after Jack McKeon resigned.
Girardi said he was fired during a brief meeting in his office with team president David Samson, general manager Larry Beinfest and assistant general manager Mike Hill. Loria did not attend.
“They came in and said, `We’re going to make a change,'” Girardi said. He said no reason was given.
“To hash over what happened doesn’t make any sense,” Girardi said.
Dude, you’re missing out. Thirty floors directly below my office, the SNY studio is holding an outdoor pep rally with the world’s loudest Mets fans. I’ve been hearing “Let’s Go Mets” and “Yankees Suck” for the past 3 frigging hours. There’s also a music stage and some dude came out and sang a song that incorporated the “Let’s Go Mets” cheer; I don’t think it was the same song that everybody lost their shit over during the summer, but it was pretty darn annoying. I have a pressure headache.
sounds like shooting sprees have started over less. But if Chris Cotter is leading the cheers, than yes indeed, I am missing out.
