Last night’s doubleheader split with Vermont left the Mets’ NY-Penn League affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones trailing Aberdeen by a half game for the McNamara division’s Wild Card. So far tonight at Keyspan, Lake Monsters OF Mike Daniel scored on Brett McMillian’s 4th inning single, as Vermont leads, 1-0. Aberdeen are hosting Lowell, where they’re scoreless after 4 1/2.

And just to make me feel even worse about missing last night’s action on Coney Island, J.P. provides the following photograph :

Trailing their PCL first round with Nashville, 1-0, Round Rock have just tied Game 2 with the Sounds at one apiece on Royce Huffman’s 2nd inning double. The series resumes tomorrow night at the Dell Diamond, with Games 4 and 5 (if necessary) to follow on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Saturday will conflict with UT/OSU pregame traffic/drinking, while a potential Game 5 will run up against a full slate of NFL Opening Day action. Needless to say, plenty of good seats should remain for both contests.

The Eastern League playoffs continue in Trenton, where LF Shelly Duncan —- oh, so good in “Nashville” and “The Shining” — has just hit a 4th inning solo HR off Portland’s Tom Hottovy to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead. DH Hideki Matsui has walked and scored a run, while the Sea Dogs’ George Kottaras (just acquired in the David Wells trade) hit a 2-run HR off Tyler Clippard.
