The Washington Nationals are preparing to announce a deal with Bonneville International Corp. to broadcast their games in 2006, and two sources familiar with the process said they will likely name Dave Jageler as a partner with Charlie Slowes on the radio, though the final format of the broadcasts hasn’t been determined.

Jageler most recently served as the play-by-play man for the Pawtucket Red Sox, the Class AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Prior to his one-year stint in Pawtucket, he co-hosted a sports call-in show in Boston and, for six years, announced basketball games for the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

Jageler would replace Dave Shea, who found out earlier this month that he would not be asked back for a second season with the Nationals.

Should the deal with Bonneville be finalized, the Nationals’ games will be carried on 1500-AM and 107.7-FM, which beginning March 30 will be known as Washington Post Radio. The company carried the games last year on WWZZ-FM-104.1 and WPLC-AM.

One source familiar with the discussions reiterated that Slowes will return to the Nationals’ booth, but there is the possibility that he could also do some work for the team’s television broadcasts produced by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.

That could leave room for Slowes to toggle between the two booths, working with Jageler in radio and one or more partners in television. Former Cincinnati Reds reliever Rob Dibble could be in the running for the color job on TV.
