…or what, you’re moving the tournament to OLN next year?
Whether it was omissions (FSU, Missouri State, Cincinnati, Michigan), seedings (Gonzaga and GWU dissed at 3 and 8 respectively, Tennessee granted too much respect at 2) or suspect invitations (Air Force, Utah State), Sunday’s selection show had something for everyone to complain about. Had Billy Packer, JIm Nantz, Greg Gumbel, etc. grinned and avoided asking the same obvious questions that were on the mind of every single viewer, they’d be a national laughing stock today (or in Packer’s case, even more of a laughing stock)
Complain? They got John Cougar-Mellencamp for their TV promos singing “Rockin’ in the NCAA!” Get it? Remember his smash hit “Rockin’ in the USA?” Ok, I object to selling out our country’s name during time of war for an amateur basketball league. And although the mix of “hip” music industry types and sports never works, I think the NCAA’s having a man named Cougar sing to cat mascots is bound to bring in a youth audience.
