Not sure what Paul Sullivan would have to say about this, but over at Boston Sports Media Watch, they’re holding Dirt Dog Steve Silva to an interesting standard. Which is to say, they expect Silva to at least entertain the possibility that when an anonymous source claims Nomar Garciaparra is refusing his Red Sox World Series ring, that said report might in fact be ficticious. Which in this case, it was.
Dirt Dogs is often hilarious and usually inspired (except for the song lyric parodies); I’ll admit to reading it every day. However, my respect for the Boston Globe went from barely passing to somewhere lower than that after they made this acquisition, for this precise reason. In response, I suppose you could claim that the same paper that publishes Steve Morse and Jim Sullivan made some kind of upgrade with Dirt Dogs.
I also suppose you could extend the guilt by association to the New York Times, which I am starting to believe may not be the only worthwhile news organization in this fine country of ours.
