Indians 19, Yankees 1 (bottom of the 8th)
(Jason Michaels. He was plunked, while the Yankees were Pronked)
6 HR’s, 21 hits and counting for the Tribe tonight, and remarkably, only one hit batsman. Alex Rodriguez (3 for 4) deserves major restraint points for only hitting a single with Kelly Stinnent on first during the visitors’ half of the 8th ; had A-Rod A-Bombed while trailing by 18, while he’d have to further contend with someone “not appreciating his game.”
Newsday’s Anthony Rieber and Ken Davidoff report the Mets are awfully close to promoting Mike Pelfrey in time for Friday’s start against Florida. The Central Texas Chapter Of Anyone But Lima (ABL) would fully support such a move. Norfolk’s Blake McGinley (1 earned run, 3 hits, 5 IP) has settled down nicely tonight since allowing a leadoff HR to Charlotte’s Angel Gonzalez. A few more stints like this and his performances on “Married…With Children” will be easily forgotten.
Your minor league pitching duel of the night : Ottawa’s Adam Loewen (7 IP, no runs, 3 hits, no walks, 10 K’s, no decision) versus Richmond’s Dan Curtis (8 IP, no runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 7 K’s), the latter earning his first win since being promoted from Double A, as the Braves prevailed, 1-0.
