The Pistons have fired coach Flip Saunders, despite three trips to the Eastern Conference finals in his three seasons.

In a statement released this morning, president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said: œDecisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular-seasons. However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change. I thank Flip for his hard work and dedication, but it is time for a new voice to lead our team.

Saunders had one year left on his contract.

I’ve heard a few suggestions that Terry Porter will receive serious consideration, but Bill Davidson must be aware there’s a former Pistons PG with iconic status, a lengthy head coaching resume, and all he’ll require to take the gig is say, 25% of the franchise.
