Organized baseball’s loss is sure to be male modeling’s gain, as Pete Incaviglia (above) hits the bricks. From the Detroit Free Press’ Jon Paul Morosi (link swiped from Repoz and Baseball Think Factory)
The Tigers fired Double-A Erie manager Duffy Dyer and his coaching staff Monday.
Dyer, hitting coach Pete Incaviglia, and pitching coach Mike Caldwell were told of their dismissal after a season-ending, 10-inning loss to Akron.
Dyer managed the Seawolves for two seasons. They shared the Eastern League™s worst record in his first year (63-79) and finished with the worst overall record this season (60-81).
Matt Walbeck, the former Detroit catcher, is a strong candidate to replace Dyer. Walbeck has managed Class A West Michigan into the playoffs in each of his three seasons there. He has also developed a good relationship with many of the players who are expected to play at Erie next season, including top prospect Cameron Maybin.
they had pete incaviglia as their hitting coach? wow. was leon lee the team’s sexual harrassment policy advisor?
The day before, Bubbie Buzachero (RP) and Eider Torres (2B) got into a fight in the Akron clubhouse. Torres, an All-Star, ended up with a busted jaw and is out for the AA playoffs. Buzachero, a decent reliever with a stupid name, was kicked off the team and “placed on the restricted list.”
According to Akron manager Tim Bogar (!):
“The bottom line is we had an altercation in the clubhouse that left Eider with a broken jaw and Bubbie no longer with the team…”
