Timberwolves head coach Dwane Casey has been fired only 1 1/2 years into his first head coaching job because, according to a source who spoke with WCCO’s Mike Max, he “lost the team.”
One specific incident suggested to be representative of Casey’s inability to control his team was the recent one-game suspension of Ricky Davis, one of the team’s top scorers. Davis left the court during a game last Friday.
The Timberwolves have lost their last four games. Currently, they are 20-20 for the season, which puts them at eighth in the Western Conference.
The source went on to tell Max that there was speculation in the organization that this would happen as early as a month ago.
According to the source who spoke with Max, Kevin McHale did not endorse Casey to be the head coach when he was hired. Assistant coach Randy Wittman will assume Casey’s coaching duties in the interim.
Here’s a really wild guess : Kevin McHale will not assume the head coaching duties again.
