Lumbering former Longhorns F Brad Buckman (above, left) will have to put his European hoops dreams on hold, writes the Austin American-Statesman’s Mark Rosner.
Buckman, who signed a one-year contract with Olimpia Larissa in the top Greek League for more than $100,000, tested positive for Adderall, an amphetamine in medicine that he has been taking for attention deficit disorder, according to his father, Brent.
“If the suspension is very long, they’ll probably just cut him,” Brent Buckman said. “They’ll need to find another player.”
Brent Buckman said that Brad has been taking medication for ADD since he was in seventh or eighth grade. But problems arose when Brad failed to tell Olimpia Larissa team officials that he was using medication.
“When he got over there, he was told to make sure he tells someone on the team,” Brent Buckman said. “For whatever reason, he didn’t do it. That’s when the problem started. I think he’s so naive. He figured if a doctor prescribed it, it’s good.”
