…or simply, KG Blowing His Line. Adidas really would’ve prefered “Impossible Is Nothing” to “anything is possible”, but perhaps that can be fixed in the editing room.

Thanks for posting this. Now I can sort out all the people, places and things he shouted out during the middle of his monologue. I’ve always loved Garnett, but I don’t think I’ve ever liked him more than I did during this speech — it’s inspiring to know that even if you’re one of the five most talented players of your generation, you can STILL overcome that to win an NBA Championship.
What does Garnett think about the Cubs, though? Why isn’t the mainstream media asking that important question? Must be the East Coast bias.
Like CG said, Rog, he blew his line or he would have mentioned the out of line comments from the HOF this week re the Cubs that rocked the sports world. Do I bitch about Mets coverage?
While I don’t follow “hoops” myself, I am happy the awkward East Coast biased media rebuild of Kobe Bryant’s rep is over. Some nyc ad agency must want him to sell Happy Meals again.
It’s not the coverage that’s the problem, it’s the hijacking of threads about other teams that you re-direct towards the Cubs that I was making fun of.
That Kobe rant makes no sense. You can’t just slap ‘East Coast Bias’ on anything in the sports world that you don’t like. Note to Ben: Kobe plays on the West Coast. I know that you don’t follow hoops so perhaps you didn’t know that.
“Kevin — what does ‘top of the world’ feel like, Kevin?” is the single greatest sports journalist moment of our generation. I love Michelle Tafoya something fierce.
So much so that I apparently can’t even spell her name right. WHOOPS.
A joke, Rog, it was a joke … altho I do think the largely rural Southern television networks you speak of tried to make Kobe look sympathetic as the determined captain/anchor of his team. The problem for me, from what little I do know of the Lakers, is that he’s the anchor because he needs to dominate the team, not build it up around him. Anyway, from the one game I saw, I prefer Garnett to Kobe no matter what coast he comes from, and I don’t get the feeling in LA that anyone likes Kobe that much.
Not to redredge the old Wire meme, but the “You look good tonight, Michelle” line is weirdly evocative of the last words Snoop Pearson ever hears.
At any rate, back to the basketball talk.
Kobe Bryant likes Kobe Bryant, fool. That’s all he needs.
To be fair to His Royal Majesty he’s been told by sports writers since the day he was drafted that he was going to be the Next Michael Jordan®. Problem is, there’s a long list of also-rans who were going to be the Next Michael Jordan® except he actually believed it.
But if Curt Schilling thinks that it’s wrong to root for Kobe, then I’d rather not be right.
