The above headline is courtesy of Tim Cook, who perhaps alluding to suitors for Lou Piniella’s services, sighs “contenders only, please.”

“Walking around this place with him, it’s like walking around New York with [former Mayor Rudolph] Giuliani, walking around Rome with the Pope,” said Josh Lewin, Piniella’s broadcast partner. “Every person you pass does a double take and has a big smile. It’s kind of neat to be in his shadow.”
Though we’ll have to take Lewin’s word for it, at least he didn’t compare Piniella’s effect on the public to that of Paris Hilton.
