Who amongst us hasn’t at one time or another considered faking our own deaths, leaving the creditors in the dust and fucking off to some far flung location —- say, Philadelphia, PA — only to think twice upon realizing that doing so would mean never again hearing the dulcet tones of WFAN’s Steve Somers?
Well, those days are over. WFAN has confirmed plans to begin streaming their patented brand of yack-radio online starting next week (thanks to Maura Johnston for the tip). The condescending prattle of Mike Francesca will now be available to the entire planet, a technological advancement that has most sensible persons wondering…was it really all worth it? Was this really worth Will Leitch inventing the internet?
The Sweater, the Dog, and Francesca all come in pretty clear in Philadelphia. That station has an enormous bandwidth.
The Sweater isn’t still on the FAN is he? Schmooze still is, but I thought Russ Salzberg was stuffed in a burlap sack with an anvil tied to his legs and chucked into the Gowanus Canal.
Brian,
I’ve had many troubles picking up WFAN in Philadelphia. Though in retrospect, perhaps I should’ve used a radio?
re : Salzberg. Off the radio these days, I thought.
