Saloon and restuarant owners all over New York are watching this story very carefully. The NY Daily News’ Anthony McCarron reports the Yankees are considering making a move to bring the Sultan Of Sloth back to the Bronx.

David Wells would consider another go-round in pinstripes, his third, if the Yankees made him a free-agent offer, his agent said yesterday, and Wells, who will be 42 next May, felt great all season after successful back surgery last winter.

“He would certainly consider going back to being a Yankee as an option, if the situation was right,” said Gregg Clifton, Wells’ Arizona-based agent. “There’s no way he’s retiring. He had a great season and he’s told me he hasn’t felt this well in years. He wasn’t in pain the whole season, other than the normal aches and pains that everyone gets from pitching. His back was never an issue.

“He absolutely, positively wants to pitch again. He had a great time last year and I think it rejuvenated him.”

Wells is at his ranch in Michigan now, Clifton said. “He’s already started a little bit of his conditioning program. He goes out for long walks in the woods.”
