San Francisco 4, Reds 4 (top of the 8th)

Moments ago, Barry Bonds just hit career HR no. 730 off Cincinnati’s Aaron Harang, a 2-run blast to right center that not only tied the game at 4-4, but also cost the Reds the services of Ken Griffey Jr., who departed after trying to scale the wall.

The Sultan Of Surly has 5 HR’s in his last 8 games.  If Frank Thomas doesn’t return to Oakland next season, perhaps Barry would make a capable DH. I hear they like guys who take a lot of pitches over there.

The Braves and Mets are scoreless after two innings, though Atlanta LF Matt Diaz made a terrific play, nailing David Wright trying to turn a single off the left-field fence into a double. Carlos Beltran, still recouperate from his Saturday heroics, has the night off, with Endy Chavez getting the start in center, Michael Tucker in left. Wily Aybar just reached first on a fielding error by Carlos Delgado, the Mets’ first miscue in 11 home games, and the first made behind Steve Trachsel other than one of Trachsel’s own this year.
