Brentford are poised to receive a grant of £1,775,950 for redevelopment work at Griffin Park, if the plans are approved at a public meeting on Thursday.
The Football Foundation have agreed to give the club the money for the work, which includes an area in the New Road stand for use by the community.
The club also want to put a roof on the open Ealing Road end of the ground and local MP Ann Keen backs the plans.
In the long term, the Bees still hope to move into a new stadium.
Keen warned that failure to approve the plans could have dire consequences for the club.
“The local police have serious concerns around health and safety and if these are not addressed, parts of the ground will have to be closed,” she said.
“What is particularly of interest to me is that the improvements would enhance security in the immediate area so I hope a positive dialogue can take place with residents.”
