In a develpment that snubs baseball’s most entertaining pitcher, Dontrelle Willis, in favor of a faceless hurler from John Sununu-ville, Cardinals right-hander Chris Carpenter has been named the recipiant of the 2005 National League Cy Young Award.
Roger Clemens finished a distant third in the voting, perhaps because it would’ve taken far too much effort to change the trophy engraving to read “Cy Old”.
Willis won more games, allowed fewer homers and had a lower ERA than Carpenter. He might win 3 or 4 future Cy Young Awards, however, so he’ll probably take this crushing disappointment better than me.
i once delivered a pizza to john sununu’s house in southern new hampster. sweet digs, big place up on a hill, set back from the road with lots of trees.
you forgot to mention the part where he opened the door and said “Man fuel!”
Wasn’t Clemens the one robbed? I mean, yer gonna penalize him cause his team couldn’t score?
Same bs in the AL – Santana had better stats in EVERY category than Colon…except wins
sorry, but i’m calling, “shenanigans!”
Here’s my thorough analysis of Roger Clemens’ Cy Young candidacy :
Fuck Roger Clemens.
Shenanigans? If you have to use language like that, as my old English teacher would say, you have already lost the argument.
I don’t think Clemens was penalized for his low scoring team. I think Oswalt got penalized for playing in the shadow of Clemens. He won 20 games, two years in a row, on the same low scoring team the Racket did.
Now Kerry Woods, in six innings he pitched this year, was flawless. How that wasn’t recognized is beyond me.
Sorry dude, but the Cy Young is only for one season accomplishments – I dont care if he won 20 games in a row 30 straight years.
He was pitching in the shadow of Clemens because Clemens was better (not even considering his age)
I dont have the stats in front of me but I’d bet they scored more for Oswalt…a lot more (in fact, I’d bet my life on it)
and by the way, i personally hate Clemens with a passion…but what he did this year, esp considering he plays in a homer happy park, was incredible
Indeed, the Rocket’s accomplishments in ’05 were truly incredible and if there were an award for the player whose single-season salary made it the most difficult for his club to assemble a decent 25 man roster (The Alex Rodriguez Memorial Trophy?), he’d be my first choice.
I’m not sure where salary figures into Cy Young award but, ummm, okay
Harris,
It’s really a fucking blast spelling shit out for you on a near-daily basis. If I wasn’t already so busy, I’d offer to move in with you just to make certain you receive around-the-clock guidance.
I didn’t say anything about Clemens’ salary having anything to do with his Cy Young credentials. I did, however, state ” if there were an award for the player whose single-season salary made it the most difficult for his club to assemble a decent 25 man roster (The Alex Rodriguez Memorial Trophy?), he’d be my first choice.” So in other words, though he wasn’t my first choice for the Cy Young Award, I’m a gracious enough person that I’ve not only nominated him for another trophy, I’ve invented an entirely new award in his honor.
lol @ 3 or 4 more cy youngs
