The Miami Herald’s Jeff Darlington calls Dolphins LB Channing Crowder “easily and unanimously the class clown of the Dolphins locker room”. ‘Cause what’s funnier than casual xenophobia, other than say, an 0-16 football team?
Once asked to describe his body on a Monday morning after a typical game, Crowder answered, ”I’ve got the sexiest body on the team every morning.” Another time, he was asked who has the worst hygiene in the locker room. ”Probably me,” he admitted. “If I have to shower more than 120 seconds, I get mad.”
There’s one problem with all of that: Less than a month ago, on the eve of the team’s trip to London, Crowder suddenly was no longer just delivering the punch lines when he joked that he ”couldn’t find London on map.” Suddenly, he became the punch line.
Crowder indeed was joking about those comments.
”I got it,” said Crowder, asked if he has figured out where London is. “I could write it all out on a map. I could write out every little country over in Europe. I don’t know all the capitals, but I could tell you all the countries.”
Crowder had a 1280 on his SATs, a 3.9 GPA in high school and was a member of the National Honor Society. So does he regret making those admittedly ignorant comments?
”I don’t regret anything I say, to be honest,” Crowder said. “I was joking. If I said something that genuinely hurt somebody’s feeling — if I said something vicious or malicious — I might regret it. But I was just joking around. I don’t regret that.”
”I don’t think it takes a high IQ to play middle linebacker,” said Crowder, who scored an above-average 30 on the Wonderlic exam out of college. “But it does take a smart football player. And that’s what is most important to me right now.”
