Former World Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson has passed away at the age of 71 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s and prostate cancer.

Patterson, an Olympic gold medalist in 1952, became the youngest heavyweight champ of all-time when he defeated Archie Moore in 1956.  His career record of 55-8-1 includes a spectacular rematch against Ingemar Johansson at New York’s Polo Grounds in 1960 to regain the belt he’d earlier lost to the Swede, and a pair of brutal beatings at the hands of Sonny Liston in ’62 and ’63.
