If the Yankees are looking to fill in a gaping hole in their starting rotation after Chien-Ming Wang’s season ending foot injury yesterday, they need look no further than the Aruban Asshole Assassin, who was rendered surplus to requirements in Arlington earlier today.

The New York Yankees, adding a possible alternative for their starting rotation, have signed free-agent right-hander Sidney Ponson to a minor-league contract, according to major-league sources.
Ponson, 31, recently was released by the Texas Rangers, who cited his off-field conduct in announcing their initial decision to designate him for assignment. – Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports, June 18, 2008
i saw that earlier and i swear i thought to myself “oh my god, the yankees are taking advice from gerard. they’re more fucked than i thought.”
er, no offense. i’m sure you’d make a fine baseball exec.
Regardless of who Cashman is listening to — and frankly, I think Hankenstein is even scarier a consigliere than GC — I think it’s worth noting: it’s so on. Bargoers, it ain’t safe no more.
Does this mean that they don’t have the pieces to go after C.C. Sabathia? I’m sure they’d love to give up on Ian Kennedy and maybe throw in Ohlendork or some other pitcher not named Joba but what could they send that anyone would actually take? Would it take Melky or Cano to get it done? Would they give up Hughes?
