Oakland 1, Minnesota 0

Minnesota’s Francisco Liriano, making his first start since August 7th, left the game in the 3nd inning after reinjuring his pitching elbow

Danny Haren was ahead in the count all afternoon and has allowed just 3 hits over 7 innings, striking out 7.

With one out in the last of the 7th and Michael Cuddyer going from first to third, Justin Morneau tried to stretch a single into a double, was gunned down by Milton Bradley. A poor decision by Morneau insisted Steve Stone, who refrained from criticizing whoever at ESPN decided to show the play in question from an overhead camera. The replay was far more illuminating, but I can’t fathom why one of the game’s most crucial moments was displayed from the vantage point of the viewer being glued to the Metrodome roof.

Minnesota’s loss dropped them to 2 games behind Detroit in the AL Central, 2 games in front of the White Sox in the AL Wild Card chase.
