From the Washington Post’s Barry Svrulga :

When he was removed from his start against the San Diego Padres on Aug. 5, Livan Hernandez tossed his glove into the stands at RFK Stadium, an act of disgust at his performance and frustration in being removed. A fan scampered out of the stadium that night with the glove, even though team officials made several pleas to get it back.

Last night, after he pitched the Washington Nationals to a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, Hernandez (above) said the fan wants an elaborate package in return for the glove: season tickets next year, playoff tickets this year — and $18,000.

“He can have it,” Hernandez said. “He thinks it’s my lucky glove, but I’m not superstitious.”

Hernandez had offered an autographed jersey and a brand-new glove.

To which I can only add, “nice try, Don Smith.”
