Press release-style, from Mets.com
The New York Mets today announced a season-long celebration commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the 1986 Mets World Championship, culminating with the return of team members for an on-field ceremony at Shea Stadium, Saturday, August 19 before the Mets face the Colorado Rockies. The Mets also will introduce a special “’86 Pack” of tickets to select games offering themed promotions tied to the 20th Anniversary of the 1986 Championship. Mets ’86 Pack Tickets are on sale now at Mets.com and (718) 507-TIXX.
Throughout the season, the Mets will celebrate the achievements of one of the most beloved teams in New York sports history, with special promotional giveaways, in-stadium entertainment, and video programming. The Mets have invited all players from the 1986 championship team, as well as General Manager Frank Cashen and Manager Davey Johnson, to be part of the reunion festivities on August 19.
What better way to remember that great 1986 season than by having ceremonies before playing a team that didn’t exist 20 years ago?
In case you were wondering, “all players from the 1986 championship team” would technically include both Wally Backman and George Foster.
Wil Ed Lynch be there, or will Randy Myers take his place?
What about Corcoran?
Those are both good questions. I’m sure Tim Corcoran was invited, as perhaps was Berenyi. Perhaps they, like me, were invited to upgrade their six-game ticket package in order to move from the upper-uppers on down to the Loge. See you at Shea, Bruce!
