As you might’ve heard, the once-again extant NHL has reached an agreement with the Outdoor Life Network. Though claiming to now be known by the acronym OLN, the Comcast-owned channel is best known for its coverage of the Tour de France, along with BBQ cook-offs and “Survivor” re-runs.
I am hopeful that by appealing to the NHL Board Of Governors, along with the Truth In Advertising Council, steps will be taken to make certain the 2005-2006 NHL season will be played outdoors. For a league in dire need of a ratings boost, what could be more tantalizing for the casual fan than the possibility of Eric Lindros falling through the ice?
The Civic Arena (Mellon Arena if you must) has a retractable roof (as wonderfully seen in Jean Claude Van Dam’s Sudden Death) if they open that for Penguins games would that count?

Powers Boothe is brilliant in that film. By Powers Boothe standards, at least.
