For perhaps the first and only time, I am genuinely afraid for the New York Post’s Phil Mushnick.
Michael Kay often tries to leave his mark by speaking in super-duper superlatives, thus becoming a victim of his own excesses. Friday night, during Yanks-Red Sox, Kay said, “Larry Bowa has had a great season as Yankee third base coach.”
He might’ve left it at that, but then added, “If you think about it, and you’re a Yankee fan and you’ve watched all the games, have you ever gone away from a game going, ‘Wow, I don’t believe Bowa sent that guy?’ ”
Well, yeah. In fact, Bowa got off to a poor start. In April he sent Jason Giambi and Jorge Posada. Both were called out at the plate. And, recognizing that both are slow, yeah, both times we said, “Wow, I don’t believe Bowa sent that guy.”
Dale Sveum and Wendell Kim, unavailable for comment.
I have yet to receive a reply from Michael Kay over my “RE: the Hawk never jinxed Brian Anderson’s errorless streak” email. Thankfully Lemont, IL (who all obviously learned fundamentals from watching tapes of Ozzie Guillen) whooped up on Staten Island in the LLWS. Take that, East Coast.
