With apologies to Tommy Hearns, there’s a new Hitman and tonight junior welterweight champ Kostya Tszyu became victim No. 39.
To call Hatton unheralded is to ignore his amazing performances to date…and his ability to withstand punishment, as well. But it would be no understatement to characterize the beating of the heavily favored Tszyu as an upset for the ages.
An upset for the ages? Maybe for someone aged ten. If you’re older you might consider one Cassius Clay winning the title against the unbeatable Sonny Liston or for us Brits: look no further than Randolph Turpin over Sugar Ray Robinson.
Hatton? As you say he can take punishment-maybe if he was a better boxer he wouldn’t have to.
if Liston was unbeatable, how did he lose to Ali…by a phantom punch, no less? But hey, you’re older than 10, you can tell me all about it.
Sorry that should have read “unbeatable”. I can’t get into the age thing as it’s time for my zzzzzzzzz.
