Right about now, I should apologize for comparing Curt Schilling to Braden Looper. Apologize to Looper, that is.
Baseball Musings’ David Pinto wonders if Dmitri Young is the heaviest player to have amassed as many as 27 triples. I think that all depends on whether or not Tony Gwynn’s listed playing weight was any more or less accurate than Too Cold Scorpio’s. Kevin Mitchell finished his big league career with 25, by the way, just 111 than the slim, trim, buffed and cut obscurity known as Babe Ruth.
(there’s a new t-shirt slogan in here somewhere)
A-Rod and self-proclaimed most feared Yankee Gary Sheffield both went deep this evening for New York, as Jaret Wright (remember him?) only allowed a pair of earned runs to the Devil Rays over 6 and a third innings. The Yankees have closed to within 4 games of Boston in the AL East, 2 games behind the A’s for the Wild Card, pending the result of tonight’s Baltimore/Oakland game at McAfee (Rodrigo Lopez vs. Barry Zito).
Yeah, Wright showed up big against the Devil Rays. Those guys are awesome! And that Schilling dig is just stoopid. Two blown saves is nothing, tough guy.
2 blown saves in 11 opportunities doesn’t look so bad. But note that Curt’s ERA is up to 6.97 and he’s allowed 8 runs (7 earned) in his last three and a third innings ; 4 HR’s in his last 6.
So yeah, the Looper comment was kinda undeserved. I should’ve said Danny Graves.
