Mets 12, Padres 0 (bottom of the 6th)
With Doug Mientkiewicz and Ramon Castro homers highlighting the Mets’ 5 run 5th inning, New York has chased Padres starter Jake Peavey — previously unbeaten against NY entering today — and appear to be on the brink of a 3 game sweep of the NL West leaders.
Kaz Ishii (above) appears to have won himself another 3-4 starts with his 6 shutout innings this afternoon. Typically, Ishii walked 5, scattered 4 hits and was helped by a couple of double plays.
Assuming the result holds up (and with Danny Graves due to enter the game, anything is possible), the Mets would move to within 5 games of the sliding Nationals for the NL East lead, and 4 1/2 games of the NL Wild Card.
Ralph Kiner is visiting the Fox Sports NY booth today, and while the sound of his voice brings back nothing but pleasant memories, the banter exchanged by Kiner, Ted Robinson and Fran Healy is somewhat less than effervescent. That said, Healy could be paired with Truman Capote and Peter Cook and still find a way to kill the vibe.
(Capote, contemplating a day spent listening to Fran or perhaps choosing the WFAN audio, delay be damned)
What? The Padres are leading in the NL west? I guess I better start paying attention. Has the all star game happened yet?
Last year in the Times, there was an article about some device that allows you to delay the radio signal so you can time it to the TV. I haven’t heard about it since and I don’t have any idea what it is called. But everytime, I have to suffer though Fran Healy I daydream about it.
