After playing one game for the San Diego Surf Dawgs, Jose Canseco has asked for a trade.
Golden Baseball League commissioner Kevin Outcalt said that trade negotiations have begun to send the former MLB All-Star to the Long Beach Armada. That means Canseco will not play against the Reno Silver Sox Wednesday or Thursday.
“The reason was because of a child-care requirement,” Outcalt said. “The requirement is that he be in the Los Angeles area for more time than he expected.”
Canseco contacted the league Tuesday morning requesting the trade because he had to be closer to his daughter, Josie, by a child-care law.
“He found out today and it surprised everybody,” Outcalt said. “He has family responsibilities.”
Outcalt said that the deal should be complete by today to send him to Long Beach and that the only thing pending is who he would be traded for.
