I ask because Super Joe McEwing has homered twice tonight for Round Rock, as the Express lead Iowa, 3-2 in the top of the 6th. Former Astros/Red Sox starter Wade Miller has allowed 3 runs and 6 hits (including both McEwing homers) over 5 innings for the Cubs.
Felix Pie lead off the game with a solo HR off Round Rock’s Matt Albers. Though I was in the parking lot at the time, I’ll take Mike Capp’s word for it…much as I would the first Gulf War, the Hindenburg Diaster or the invention of fire.
(UPDATE : Round Rock 6, Iowa 3. Not only was Super Joe 3-4 on the evening with 3 RBI’s, but he made a tremendous play in the top of the 8th to rob Augie Ojeda of an infield hit. McEwing went fair to his right to snare a chopper that dragged him into foul territory…and his off-balance throw narrowly beat Ojeda to first. The journeyman infielder was practically in the Express dugout by the time he’d released the ball.
C Hector Jimenez had the game-winning hit with his bloop single in the bottom of the 8th, a ball that neither Pie or 2B Buck Coats could reach. Round Rock added a pair of insurance runs on Eric Buntlett’s double off Kerry Lightenberg….and yes, I had to rub my weary eyes a few times to make sure it was him. Sometimes I think if I hang around the Dell Diamond long enough, Mark Whiten or Mark Woehlers are gonna come down from outer space).
