Biker-turned-luthier Travis Bean, founder of the guitar company that bears his name, passed away yesterday in Burbank, CA.
Bean’s line of aluminum neck guitars and basses, favored by players including, but not limited to Duane Dennison, Steve Albini, Tim Midgett, Keith Levene and Jerry Garcia, are nothing less than a testament to American ingenuity. Bean’s contributions to music history haven’t quite made him a household name, but for those familiar with the players above, his guitars and the sounds they’ve helped fashion are unmistakable.
Hello
Thanks for posting this post, it’s a sad day in guitar history.
I wanted to mention the link for ‘aluminum neck guitars and basses’ should probably go to travisbeanguitars.com. The Travis Bean link you linked to is a German knock off.. not even making them out of aluminum. TravisBeanGuitars.com is the site dedicated to the original Beans that Travis created in the 70s.
Thanks
thanks, the link has been corrected — a pretty glaring oversight, and I appreciate the heads-up
No problem! Thanks again for posting this.
Take care

you might want to clean out your cache, Ben. The spelling of Keith’s surname was corrected early yesterday evening.
My bad, sorry.
