Not only are USC —- leading Texas 61-47 with 7:47 remaining, on the brink of their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2001, but next autumn, the Trojans will welcome O.J. Mayo to the fold. In yesterday’s West Virginia Class AAA state final, Mayo scored 41 points, and collected 11 rebounds and 10 assists in Huntington’s 103-61 demolition of South Charleston, a game that ended with scenes of near-Beatlemania (if the Beatles were a quintet and played high school basketball).
Here’s some Mayo action from an earlier round of the tournament. As long as he doesn’t have to room with Al Cowlings at Southern Cal, everything should work out just fine.
Less awesome to be the guy who picked Texas winning three more games. I believe I’m now celebrating an entire decade of being out of bracket contention by the end of the tournament’s first four days.
