Last night’s 92-88 win over Minnesota will mark Jason Kidd’s final game in a Nets uniform, as the veteran point guard has been is reportedly close to being traded to Dallas along with Malik Allen in exchange for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, the expiring contracts of center DeSegana Diop and swingman Devean George and possibly guard Maurice Ager. And this time, Toni Braxton probably won’t be around to break things up.
(UPDATE, culled from the Dallas Morning News’ Eddie Sefko :
The deal is not done, but the sides may simply be quibbling over ancillary pieces at this point, which could include Devean George, DeSagana Diop, draft picks and a signed-and-traded Keith Van Horn, a contract that would expire after this season, giving the Nets increased salary cap flexibility. Another NBA source said, however, that the likelihood of Stackhouse being traded, then bought out by the Nets so that he might return to the Mavericks, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The Nets would be on the hook for his $7 million salary for the next two seasons.
nets with devin harris beat cleveland in the playoffs. you heard it here first!
You know, as (I think) the only Nets fan on this site, I actually agree. I loved Jason Kidd — he absolutely changed the franchise, and is easily the best player I’ve seen wear that uniform — but getting a more efficient, better-scoring PG for a third of the price who’s 10 years younger…I mean, the expiring contracts are sort of gravy. Especially if, as I suspect, owner Bruce Ratner doesn’t actually do anything of note with all that cap space. It’s a pretty decent deal, though, and watching the Nets run with Harris could be a blast. Or they could play disheartened, miserable ball like they did tonight. There’s always that.
david-
harris is also an awesome defender…i know that won’t impress vc too much but it may make richard jefferson and sean williams pick it up defensively even more. the next move for the nets, whether they look good w/ harris or not, is to move vc..regardless of anything. he’s the prototype for the superstar caliber nba’er that just doesn’t give a shit about winning or losing.
