…but no one wants to let Sugar Bear crash at their place.
From the AP :
The Sugar Bowl will be played in either Baton Rouge, La., or Atlanta after being forced out of the Superdome in New Orleans by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Sugar Bowl officials said Tuesday they will know in about three weeks whether Louisiana has recovered sufficiently to keep the game in the state where it has been played every year since it was established in 1935.
While Tiger Stadium on the LSU campus would make an adequate game host, the city of Baton Rouge does not have enough hotel rooms and sufficient infrastructure to host a large-scale event that would bring thousands of tourists to the city for the Jan. 2 game.
Sugar Bowl executive director Paul Hoolahan said that if the game is to be played in Baton Rouge, New Orleans would have to be prepared to house most of the people — from participants and media to fans — traveling to the game.
“We are going to continue to talk with city and state officials, everybody who will need to be involved in this process,” he said in a teleconference from Chicago with BCS officials. “This is totally about New Orleans.”
Atlanta has already given Sugar Bowl officials the OK to play the game in the Georgia Dome, which already hosts the Southeastern Conference championship game in December. That made Atlanta an obvious and convenient choice as a temporary home for one of college football’s longest-running and most recognizable events.
A move to Atlanta would take a bit of the shine off the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, currently scheduled for the Georgia Dome on December 30. But they don’t serve peaches at Chick-fil-A and the damn place isn’t even open on Sundays, so what do they expect?
No peaches and no hamburgers @ Chik-fil-A, but they are the nation’s fastest growing restaurant franchise and they have great food. As for Sundays, that’s when they go to church and then Braves or Falcon’s games. Keep up the good work! (PS- Could Atlanta swap the chicken bowl to New Orleans for the Suugar Bowl even-steven for keeps?)
Guy,
no Braves or Falcons action here in the ATX and since I’m, how would Ryan Church put it, DOOMED, I resent not getting the chik-fil-a action on the day of rest.
