The circumstances surrounding Tim Ireland’s final game as Oklahoma Redhawks manager have already been noted in this space (pt. I, pt. II), and it was announced last week (whoops!) that he has now achieved what for many is a lifetime dream : being paid to stay at home and watch television. (link courtesy Notes In A Minor Key)

The Redhawks’ parent club, the Texas Rangers, beat the Yankees, 6-2 earlier today thanks to a strong performance by the well-rested Vincente Padilla and a combined four hits for Kevin Mench and Brad Wilkerson, the latter connecting for a 2 run HR off Jaret Wright in the 7th.

Though both the Yankees and Mets have the evening off, the combined New York press corps will be very busy tonight transcribing more quotes from those players, managers and front office staff who profess to not giving a shit about this weekend’s Subway Series.
