The Providence Journal’s Sean McAdam has poured cold water on predictions that David Wells is headed back to San Diego, predicting that the Red Sox and Padres will merely swap C Doug Mirabelli and 2B Mark Loretta. McAdam also claims that Boston are prepared a 4 year, $40 million offer to CF Johnny Damon, which isn’t quite the length Scott Boras has been looking for, but it’s unclear if anyone else is willing to make a greater commitment.
