Though Gary Sheffield has a point when he complains about supposedly secret testimony being leaked to the newspapers, perhaps he’s not the best guy to be making the argument. Particularly when he insists in today’s New York Post (as told to George King) that Barry Bonds has been unfairly targeted because of the Giants LF’s big mouth.
Sheffield said he knew Bonds was headed for trouble two seasons ago at the All-Star Game in Chicago.
“When Barry went off about Babe Ruth in Chicago, I knew this day was coming,” Sheffield said. “I heard him reeling off about Babe Ruth’s records. Once he talked about the Babe in front of the world, I knew this day was coming. Hank Aaron had to go through an awful lot to get past this man and [Bonds] isn’t going to be any different.”
