Lest you thought Kevin Johnson trying out the incumbent’s chair for size was the last sensational item from the Sacramento mayoral campaign, think again, writes the Sacramento News’ Mary Lynne Velinga.

Campaign workers for Johnson spent much of Monday replacing 300 signs that had been vandalized during the night.

Johnson campaign manager Steve Maviglio said a bumper sticker with the word “pervert” had been slapped on Johnson signs all over town “ presumably a reference to unproven allegations that the former NBA star inappropriately touched teenage girls in Phoenix and Sacramento.

“I’m totally exhausted,” Maviglio said. “I think we’re going to win, but I think it’s going to be close.”

Fargo’s signs also were targeted. Many of those in the Pocket neighborhood simply disappeared overnight, the mayor said.

“There’s a little last-minute frenzy going on apparently,” she said.
