From the Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant in Sunday’s paper.
Free-agent starter Matt Morris (above), whom the Rangers courted aggressively, has eliminated the club from consideration for his services.
A Rangers club official confirmed that Morris had informed the Rangers he would be going to a National League team. San Francisco and St. Louis, the team with which Morris has spent his entire major league career, have also been wooing him.
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels was scheduled to talk with the media later Saturday evening.
The Rangers presented Morris with a three-year offer worth approximately $25 million Friday. It was believed to be the best financial package the 31-year-old right-hander was offered.
Grant goes on to point out the obvious — that a pitcher would have to be desperate, crazy, at the end of the line (or Kenny Rogers) to willingly subject his ERA to the Arena Baseball Monstrosity that is Ameriquest Field.
